The old houses and barns of rural Maine inspire Nicole Herz's
paintings. She sees these old structures as now existing on their own
terms, still and sculpture-like.
Nicole's recent paintings explore how the colors, textures and forms
of both man-made, and natural structures, relate to each other, and to
the landscape that surrounds them. Herz is a graduate of Carnegie Mellon University, where she earned her BFA in painting. She has also studied abroad in Rome, Italy. Herz lived in New York City until 2001, and now lives and works on Mount
Desert Island, Maine.
By reinterpreting the scene, I create a personal mood of place and time that expresses my most intimate reaction to the subjects.
