These paintings are the foundation of my studio practice. These are the images I have built upon and also the images which I return to.

I have been painting trees from a variety of angles, perspectives and even from different degrees of distance--both physical and emotional--for several years. These "portraits" explore the life-sustaining movement of trees as they extend into space and reach to maximize their participation in the world.

In the last two years, the trees have moved me, to a further investigation of the heart, body and landscape. My work continues to examine this inter-connectedness of movement, stillness and matters of the heart as witnessed in life. Each painting is a subtle reminder that relationship and connection are fundamental to building and nourishing our lives.

"I think you are painting the heart and the body as much as you are painting trees."
