Art That Heals was made for an exhibit by the Union of Maine Visual Artists held at the Maine Photographic Workshop in Rockport, Maine, Spring 2006. Through an installation, I brought to life one of the stories in my autobiographical book, Feltboard Parables, about my mother's health, a concern of mine since I was 7 years old. A handmade poppet of my mother rests in my childhood doll's bed on a pillow embroidered with dream-time messages and covered with an Ethiopian 'healing quilt.' She is watched over by a life-size paperdoll of me at that age. An ethereal mood is evoked by an enlargement on sheer fabric of my painting of two dolls.
